The Probability Map and Decision Making

The core of the game’s progression is the Probability Map, a system that uses a mix of alien and human technology to predict future events. This map consists of various nodes, each representing a specific mission type with unique risks and rewards. Players must vote on which nodes to tackle, considering how their choices chain together into specific routes. This phase requires teams to strategize and look ahead to manage the increasing difficulty and curveballs introduced as the run progresses.

Combat and Survival Systems

Once a mission begins, players are teleported into an environment where they must complete objectives such as hacking alien technology, gathering resources, or rescuing survivors. These tasks are complicated by the presence of alien forces and Killbot squads delivered via drop pods. Survival is critical; a run only continues as long as one team member reaches the Escape Zone. Players who die are \"reprinted from backup\" at the Homebase but return with a broken bone, a debuff that requires a medic at a Rest Stop to heal. If the entire team is eliminated, the run ends.

Equipment and Customization

Players have access to a wide array of weapons, items, and abilities that can be combined to suit different playstyles, including stealth, hacking, healing, and direct combat. The choices made during a run—such as choosing between a jetpack for movement or an SMG for firepower—impact the team's strategy. Throughout the journey, players can visit The Shop to spend collected "Cache" on new gear and items, potentially altering their approach for the remainder of the mission.

Replayability and Dynamic Environments

Replayability is driven by a combination of handcrafted environments and randomized elements. While level designers create the base maps, the starting locations, mission objectives, enemy placements, and loot distributions are unique to every session. Furthermore, randomly generated time-of-day and weather conditions affect how missions unfold. The interactions between creatures, plants, and weapons are designed to be dynamic, ensuring that no two runs are identical.

Beta Access and Availability

Bad Robot Games is currently recruiting players for a Closed Beta, which is scheduled to launch in the spring of 2026. The beta will be available on PlayStation 5 and PC, initially focusing on the North American region before rolling out to other territories.
