Kena: Scars of Kosmora Announced for PS5 and PC

Ember Lab has officially announced Kena: Scars of Kosmora, the follow-up to their debut title, Kena: Bridge of Spirits. Scheduled for release in 2026, the game will be available on both PlayStation 5 and PC. Developed in partnership with PlayStation Studios, this new entry aims to expand upon the action-adventure mechanics and combat systems established in the original game while introducing a larger, more detailed world.
A Mature Kena and the Island of Kosmora
In this installment, Kena is depicted as an older, more experienced Spirit Guide. The narrative follows her journey to the mysterious island of Kosmora as she seeks answers to an affliction she has endured throughout her life. Kosmora is described as a land containing diverse cultures and regions, though it is currently plagued by secrets from a tragic past. Unlike the first game, which focused on guiding the deceased, Kena now uses her skills to assist the living within this new environment.
New Gameplay Mechanics and Alchemy
A significant shift in gameplay occurs when a powerful spirit fractures Kena’s staff early in the journey. To adapt, Kena must adopt a forgotten form of Spirit Guiding native to Kosmora that utilizes Alchemy. This system allows players to manipulate elemental powers, adding layers of strategy to combat. While the core loop of cleansing corrupted souls remains, the inclusion of elemental infusions and new combat skills is designed to provide more depth during encounters and boss fights.
Elemental Spirit Companions
The game introduces Elemental Spirit Companions, which serve as successors to the Rot from the previous title. These companions travel with Kena, growing in strength and unlocking new abilities as the bond between the player and the spirit deepens. Each companion is tied to a specific element and is part of a broader network of spirits found throughout the world. While only one spirit has been revealed so far, the developers have indicated that many more types exist within the game.
